In the heart of Alexandra, where hardships often overshadows opportunity, four women from Rearabiloe Events are rewriting the story for the children and youth of the community. Through a blend of joyful experiences such in indoor movie screenings to splash parties, they are, they are bringing laughter to those who do not have access to such moments. But their mission goes deeper than that, as they aim to build a foundation of empowerment and long-term impact within the community.
Rearabiloe Event is lighting up the lives of Alexandra’s children, of which majority are facing the socio economic challenges that limit their access to mainstream entertainment. From magical carnivals filled with face painting and games to indoor screening of the most loved children’s films. Rearabiloe Events is creating a joyful, lasting memories for those in need. Every event is a celebration of inclusion, ensuring that fun and wonder are never out of reach for the community of Alex.

The work of these four women behind Rearabiloe Events reach far beyond bringing joy to children, it also gives the opportunity of employment to the youth of the community. By involving the youth in organizing and running the events, the founders are offering practical training in planning, team work and logistics. These real wok skills are helping the youth become more employable, and many already used, their experiences with Rearabiloe Events to land jobs in different job vacancies. “we wanted to create opportunities for our youth so that they dont end up on the streets and become criminals, with the skills we are offering, we are hoping it will open doors for them in other jobs as they have gained experience and it has proven that to be effective” said Mbali Mtombeni one of the founders
For Alexandra’s young people, working with Rearabiloe Events provides more than just income. It’s a chance to gain real experience, grow in confidence and stay actively involved in something meaningful. Helping them avoid negative influences like crime and substance abuse behaviours. “Ever since I worked with Rearabiloe Events, I learnt skills that I now apply where I am currently working as a sells person at SportsScene” said one of the youth employment Precious Mazibuko

Youth unemployment in South Africa remains alarmingly high. Charmain Lushozi is a final year student completing a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. With a strong foundation in high school, where she attended at Meridian Cosmo City, where she excelled academically and earned a Bachelor’s degree.
Charmain’s passion for storytelling has led her to pursue a career in this field. As the technical Director at Khanye Creative Studios, she was able to perfect her skills behind a camera, working on various shoots that showcase her creativity. She is known for her caring and respectful nature, making her an important member of her workplace and school.
As Charmain is about to finish her degree, she will significant impact in the world of sport broadcasting. With her technical expertise, and storytelling, she is sure to excel in her future. Whether behind the camera or in front, Charmain Lushozi is a talented girl with a bright future

The growing concern of homelessness in Cosmo City
In the township of Cosmo City, there has been a rise of individuals who are struggling to find a place to call home. Homelessness has become a very serious issue, raising questions about the root cause and potential solutions.
The resident of Cosmo City are concerned about the issue that they are facing. They are worried about their safety as some of the homeless people turn to crime in order to survive. “It is not safe to walk alone at night anymore” said a resident. “Something has to be done about the paras (homeless people)”. Resident are worried about the presences of the squatting camp in their neighbourhood, and how individuals engage in substance abuse and community crime.
According to the statistics South Africa has had a quadruple number of homeless people since 1996 reaching 55,719 in 2022. Whereby Gauteng accounts for 46% of the national total. The community council is however working to deal with this issue at hand. “we are providing temporary shelter and feeding scheme at the Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre” says councilor Solomon Kanyani. “However, we do need more resources and support from our government in order to tackle this situation”
To address the homelessness crisis from Cosmo City, there has to be a need for effective governance, resources and allocation and community support system in place.
